The Africa - Debt Capital Markets Summit

21st June 2011, London

Spurred by strong growth and good economic fundamentals, African governments, parastatals and private enterprises are increasingly turning to financial markets to fund investments and expansion plans. And with European debt looking seemingly unattractive, and interest rates in the West at historic lows, African debt has become an appealing alternative for investors.

At least 5 countries from Africa are looking at issuing a sovereign bond this year with many others, including a number of local companies, looking at tapping international financial markets for debt in the near future.

There is scope for phenomenal growth as the amount of African debt circulating amongst international investors is very low compared to other emerging markets. Much of this can be attributed to the lack of information between potential investors and prospective issuers.

With this in mind, The Africa-Debt Capital Markets Summit will bridge the information gap. It will bring together issuers – from government and business - with prospective investors.
